What's a Jelly?

Yesterday MonkeyPuzzle attended our second Jelly event.

A Jelly is an informal event which allows self-employed- and home-workers to come along and do their normal work, but alongside other people. As well as providing a bit of social contact Jelly events offer the chance to engage in a bit of networking, and also as a stimulus and break to the normal routine.

Yesterday's event was at the Yeovil Innovation Centre, beside the Yeovil Town FC ground - a fine venue with multiple meeting rooms, conference rooms and 'hot' office facilities. And a fine wind turbine out front, to boot.

Our previous Jelly was at The Monks Yard near Ilminster, a fantastic conference, eating and workspace venue in beautifully converted farm buildings. If you haven't been there for a bite to eat, I can't recommend it enough.

Both events provided a different environment to catch up on a bit of work and get to know some other small businesses and what they do. I won't call it chatting as such, definitely more like networking! Attending as well as ourselves were Fiona from Emmersons, David Short from Global Hand UK and Phil Stevens from Sky High Thinking. Apparently the Western Gazette were also there in the morning, so look out for that in the next issue.

All in all, a very worthwhile event which will hopefully grow and grow.

For details of the next Jelly event, please contact Fiona.

Ilminster jelly at Monks Yard: 3rd Thursday of month, next date: 20 May 2010, 10am - 5pm

Yeovil jelly at Yeovil Innovation Centre: 4th Weds of month, next date: 26 May 2010, 9:30am - 4:30pm

In the meantime here's a timely article on how not to work alone (although I'm not sure where 'Yeoville' is!).
